juan sebastian Zambrano Jaramillo

Juan Sebastian is a PhD student in Civil Engineering focused on research the influence of new connections for mass timber and hybrid materials in modular structures through laboratory testing and numerical simulation. He graduated from Universidad de Cuenca in Ecuador as a Civil Engineer in 2018 and then started to do some research on the influence of continuous stiffness in RC Moment Frames. In his free time, Juan Sebastian enjoys biking and going out for a walk.

detlef laughery

Detlef Laughery is a dual masters student in civil engineering and wood science and engineering with a passion for mass timber structures. The focus of Detlef’s research is advancing the understanding of composite action between steel-timber hybrid diaphragms. Born and raised in Oregon, Detlef appreciates all things outdoors such as hiking, rock climbing, and rafting in his spare time. When rained out, he turns to woodworking. Safe to say: Detlef likes trees.

Rachel Fields

Rachel Fields is a PhD student in Civil Engineering and Sustainable Forest Management. Rachel's research focuses on wildfire risk at the community and property level, and aims to bridge between research on wildfire in the wildlands and wildfire ignition and transmission in communities. Rachel graduated from Gonzaga University with a bachelor's in Civil Engineering and her EIT license. In her free time, Rachel is an avid reader and enjoys spending time outdoors. Rachel is co-advised with Dr. Christopher Dunn.

nicolas coello chica

Nicolas is a PhD student in civil engineering. He is researching sustainability, smoldering and emissions in mass timber compartments under fire. Multi-scale tests and numerical models will be used to increase adoption of mass timber products. Nicolas obtained his bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Universidad de Cuenca in Ecuador in 2023, and he has done some research on energy dissipation and probability of failure of steel frames under seismic loads. In his free time he enjoys biking and working out.

Alex Saccente

Alex is a masters student in civil engineering. Alex's research focuses on utilizing lidar and laser scanning technology coupled with finite element analysis to assess the seismic performance of deteriorated steel-framed corroded structures for strategic repair and retrofit. Alex obtained her Honors Bachelor of Science in architectural engineering with a minor in mathematics at Oregon State University in 2022. In her free time, Alex enjoys road biking, hiking, and crocheting. Alex is co-advised with Dr. Erzhuo Che.

wyatt garrett

Wyatt Garrett is a MS student in Civil Engineering with a focus on structural engineering and mass timber structures. Wyatt graduated with a BS in Civil Engineering from the University of New Hampshire. His research will analyze the fire performance of CLT connections and the fire performance of cellulose-cement composite materials. Wyatt has a passion for learning and loves the outdoors, music, and art.

Aimé nacoulma

Aimé is a masters student in civil engineering with a focus on structural engineering. His research focuses on the connection capacity of a cellulose cement composite intended for residential and light commercial construction. Aimé’s undergraduate degree is in Civil Engineering from Oregon State University. In his spare time, he enjoys playing football (aka soccer) and working out. Aimé is co-advised with Dr. Judy Liu.
